Let me begin by wishing you and your loved ones Happy Holidays and a healthy and prosperous New Year!
2017 has been a year full of changes, challenges, and opportunities. Many of us in facility management and the professional cleaning industry are still adapting to new realities.
However, 2018 gives us the chance to set a New Year’s resolution to take what we’ve learned over the past twelve months to improve the coming year. It gives us the opportunity to do something really big and important; something that our children and future generations will be glad we did.
With this in mind, my New Year’s resolution is to work with my friends involved with the Healthy Schools Campaign, Practice Greenhealth, US Green Building Council, Green Sports Alliance, Investor Environmental Health Network, BOMA, IFMA and similar organizations.
Specifically, this New Year’s resolution is to get schools, universities, S&P 500 companies, hospitals, sport facilities and others to encourage the distributors of professional cleaning products to go beyond just selling Green products to become more sustainable companies themselves.
This initiative will help us all be more effective, efficient and responsible stewards of the environment, as well as benefit the bottom line. A true win-win!
To make this work, however, we need the help of purchasers, distributors, and sellers.
What Purchasers Can Do
For those of you who are facility managers or involved in the purchasing of cleaning products, I would like to send you a simple addendum that can be added to your existing RFPs for cleaning products. These documents are absolutely free, and they are NOT product, manufacturer or distributor specific.
This simple one page addendum is based on my years working to “green” the distributors of professional cleaning products. It is easy to use, addressing the environmental and sustainability impacts specifically associated with operating warehouses and delivery vehicles.
My intention is to help you better understand these issues, which will in turn help you identify the best suppliers from both a cost and environmental perspective, along with which distributor best aligns with your current and future efforts, commitments and values.
To receive this addendum, please email me at SteveAshkin@AshkinGroup.com.
What Distributors and Sellers Can Do
For distributors and sellers in the professional cleaning industry, I would like to share the same addendum with you and ask that you consider using it in your operation and to share this information with your customers.
While I know that not all customers think about these issues, but I believe you have customers who in fact are trying to incorporate these considerations in all of their purchasing decisions and need help specifically applying it to cleaning products.
Need more convincing? In the latest surveys, 82 percent of S&P 500 companies are now producing sustainability reports, up from just 20 percent five years earlier.
This is a massive change in a short amount of time. These companies will almost certainly be looking at the impacts from their supply chain as they work to become as sustainable and profitable as possible.
Change is coming and coming fast, making this an excellent opportunity in 2018 to demonstrate your leadership. Plus, it’s a chance for you to differentiate yourself from those who sell by price alone.
So whether you are a buyer or a seller, the documents I have prepared can help you make an impact. Please let me know if you are interested and I will send them immediately.
To receive this addendum, please just email me at SteveAshkin@AshkinGroup.com.
2018 is going to be a great year — and let’s resolve to make it so!
Happy Holidays and I look forward to hearing from you.
