From Our October ISSA 2018 Newsletter
We’re just a few days away from ISSA Dallas, the biggest trade show in North America for the professional cleaning industry. ISSA has been pulling out all the stops to make this show the best ever, hosting newcomers to free breakfasts and offering them tours of the trade floor.
It’s all designed to make the
show more interesting, engaging, and valuable for all of us in the professional
I’m involved in several events
and projects at the show this year and I’m encouraging you all to join
But first, if you could make a
note on your show “to do” list:
The Ashkin Group will be in booth 1716 this
year. So, come on by and say howdy. We’d love to meet you.
Now, as to some of those events
and projects I encourage you to attend:
Healthy Schools Campaign’s Green Cleaning Schools Program, taking place on
Monday and Tuesday (October 29th & 30th), is bringing together 200 schools
and universities to discuss a variety of Green Cleaning issues. These
include innovative cleaning products, ergonomics, how to engage school
administration and custodial workers, and much more.
This year, part of the program
includes a panel I will be moderating on sustainability, a very important issue
for this sector. After the education sessions, the attendees will get to
see the 700+ exhibitors on the trade show floor. This will provide them with
lots of opportunities to learn how to further Green their cleaning programs and
to send a clear message that schools and universities are committed to buying
greener products from companies that operate the most sustainably.
• We are
hosting an Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, October 30th for 14 companies
participating in the Distributor Efficiency Analytics & Learning Program
(DEAL). These companies are “walking the sustainability talk” and helping
us move the entire cleaning industry towards becoming not only Green, but more
sustainable organizations themselves. Congratulations to all the winners!
Sorry, but I can’t announce the winners until the awards ceremony takes place.
• I am
speaking on a panel on Wednesday, October 31st for the Building Service
Contractors Association International (BSCAI), entitled, Get an unfair business advantage
with today’s hottest CRE Healthy Buildings and Occupant Wellness. Attendees
will be taught how to increase client retention by understanding the important
role cleaning contractors play by developing building health and wellness
Note: Registration for the BSCAI Convention, while at the Dallas
Convention Center, is separate from the ISSA Convention.
• We will be
introducing our new Sustainability Visualization and Engagement Tool.
This system analyzes a facility’s environmental information such as energy,
water, and waste data and then “visualizes” it on a monitor, which could be in
the lobby of a convention center, office building, sports facility, or
showroom. The system allows employees, visitors, customers, fans and
others — to quickly see the facility’s sustainability efforts and presents
information in easy to understand “people units” (no complicated jargon). This
is an excellent tool for all organizations on their sustainability journey as
it will help make the connection between sustainability accounting and
marketing (telling the story).
• When you
are visiting our booth, please check out our new and updated copy of the Green
Sports Alliance’s Playbook on Greener Cleaning in Sports Facilities.
This is version 2 of the Playbook. Unfortunately, we will only have a few
copies on display, but we are happy to email a copy to you.
By the way… we are also planning to showcase innovative, new Green products in
the Playbook. Currently, we have a few sponsorship opportunities still
available, so contact me at Steve@AshkinGroup.com
if you want to discuss this further.
And one more thing since we are talking about sports. On Friday November 1,
there will be a tour of the Dallas Cowboy’s AT&T Stadium. It’s an
amazing facility even if you’re not a Cowboy fan. You’ll just need to
check with ISSA to see if there are some spots available on the tour as I heard
it was close to full.
Finally, I’d like to tell you
about an innovative, Green Cleaning program, we just completed for the City of
San Francisco’s custodial supervisors. We created the San Francisco
Train-the-Trainer Custodial Supervisors’ Tool Box. This program helps
correct and improve the cleaning effectiveness of custodial workers while also
eliminating language barriers.
Their feedback has been
overwhelmingly positive, and I would be happy to tell you all about it. So, come
on down to booth 1716.
